Gipsy Danger Restored

"She's one of a kind now."
—Mako Mori to Raleigh Becket[1]

The Mark III Restoration Program (or Mark III Restoration Project) was a major reconstructive project dedicated to the restoration of the Mark-3 Jaeger Gipsy Danger. The program was headed by the Pan Pacific Defense Corps from 2023 to 2025.[1][2]

History[]

After Gipsy Danger was severely damaged in its fight with the Kaiju Knifehead on February 29, 2020, the Jaeger was pulled from active combat. A year later, Gipsy Danger was relocated to Oblivion Bay[3], a graveyard for destroyed or damaged Jaegers in Oakland, California.[2][1]

During the lull of Kaiju attacks in 2023, Gipsy Danger was removed from Oblivion Bay and returned to the Anchorage Shatterdome. There, the Jaeger underwent a major overhaul and reactivation effort under the supervision of J-Tech officers Mako Mori and Tendo Choi. All personnel involved in the reconstruction of Gipsy Danger were referred to as the Gipsy Danger Upgrade Team.[2][1]

Reconstruction continued in Anchorage until the Icebox's closure in October of 2024.[4] The Jaeger was later relocated to the Hong Kong Shatterdome, where repairs were finally completed on January 2, 2025.[5][1]

Upgrade Specifications[]

For the better part of three years, Gipsy Danger's preexisting systems underwent significant upgrades. The most notable upgrade was on the firing protocol for the Jaeger's I-19 Plasmacaster, which initially required the rotation of its pilot's arm to activate before it could fire.[2][1]

The said upgrade reduced the weapon's warmup delay by 15% and allowed the Plasmacaster to be triggered on-command without physical exertion from its pilots. As one of the few surviving nuclear-powered Jaegers, Gipsy Danger's shielding for its reactor was also upgraded; its fuel rods were restored, its coolant system was rebuilt, and a venting system was also installed for improved reactor efficiency and venting of waste heat.[2][1]

In light of the advances made with Mark-4 and Mark-5 Jaegers, Gipsy Danger's Conn-Pod interface was upgraded, with its HUD remodeled to act as both the navigation and digital readout of the Jaeger's weapons. Mako also personally designed the GD6 Chain Sword and had the sword built into Gipsy Danger's forearms to act as a secondary weapon to the Jaeger's Plasmacasters.[2][1]

Gipsy Danger's escape mechanisms, which were first upgraded in 2017,[6] were updated further to align with the Pan Pacific Defense Corps's recent specifications. Circuitry that was undamaged in the fight against Knifehead were summarily updated alongside the Jaeger's hydraulics systems and neuromuscular assemblies for faster reaction times and increased endurance. Gipsy Danger was also rebuilt with a double-core nuclear reactor, a solid iron hull with no alloys, forty engine blocks per muscle strand, a hyper-torque driver for all limbs, and an updated fluid synapse system.[1]
