Collaboration with Guillermo del Toro
The Pacific Rim Sideshow Collectible statues were developed in partnership with director, Guillermo del Toro. Digital assets and models of the Jaegers and Kaiju were used to create models that were identical to the characters that appeared in the film, including nose art and physical details that were otherwise unnoticed.
Prior to the release of the film on DVD, del Toro and Sideshow held a giveaway contest for all four Pacific Rim statues. Contestants who pre-ordered all three statues available would receive the Slattern statue, which was then regarded as a "mystery" prior to the debut of the film in theaters July 12, 2013.
The contest began June 20, 2013 at 12:00am Pacific Time and ended July 31 of the same year. One winner who entered prior to the the end of the contest had the chance to win all four statues offered by Sideshow Collectibles. The name of the winner would've been announced after the closure of the contest, the winner contacted via e-mail with instructions to confirm their winnings.
