  • Ok, so I posted this on another place but I decided to also put it here because I think this jaeger already deserves its own thread, I mean, Guillermo actually talked about it but it's still mostly almost an "invisible" topic that really hasn't gotten any serious discussion or consideration, also It's fun to speculate about the possibilities for a sequel. Here we go:

I'm just gonna highlight three very special words: "MARK-3 RESTORATION PROGRAM"... Ok, so we all know Gipsy Danger was a Mark-3 was the first jaeger to be part of this restoration program but he obviously isn't the only Mark-3. Guess which jaeger is a Mark-3 that didn't make it into the first movie... Yes guys! MATADOR FURY. The mexican Jaeger is also Mark-3 just like Gipsy Danger.

Ok, so now... What did Guillermo said about the Matador? well he said that he wanted it into the original film but that the inclusion of both pilots and the Jaeger itself "was just too many backstories". Also Guillermo del Toro said that should a Pacific Rim 2 ever happen we can expect Matador Fury to be there.

Here are some sources that quote Guillermo's intention to add Matador Fury in the second film:

"Guillermo Del Toro on the Mexican Jaeger that didn't make it into Pacific Rim": http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news/174745-guillermo-del-toro-on-the-mexican-jaeger-that-didnt-make-it-into-pacific-rim

"You don't know squat about pacific rim": http://io9.com/you-dont-know-squat-about-pacific-rim-747018098

So, what do you think guys?

Yeah, that would be cool. Personally, my favorite jaeger is Romeo Blue, I think his design looks great. It would have been interesting if they had built him with three legs (as seen in some concept art) rather than two, that would have made him a very unique and unconventional jaeger.

Romeo Blue only would appear in a prequel anyways, oh well, at least we can get to see him punching Hardship in the face during the opening sequence.

        Loading editor
    • actually based on damage received romeo would be a strong candidate for restoration

One good thing is that, even if he doesn't get repaired and sent out again, Travis Beacham hopes to feature Tacit in the comics at some point. Hopefully that's not all that we'll be seeing of him, but it's a start.

        Loading editor
    • Beacham has stated that ideally, he'd prefer to do a sequel and then a prequel. Tacit Ronin, Romeo Blue, Horizon Brave and even Matador Fury... I think only a full movie could do them justice.

A full movie would definitely be better, I was just pointing out that at least we will get something. Good to know that Beacham isn't against the concept of a prequel in order to show off some of the Jaegers that were eliminated in the middle of the war in more detail.

I'm especially looking forward to seeing what Matador Fury officially looks like so that my mind will stop picturing a tan Gipsy Danger with a sombrero whenever I hear the name...

Absolutely. I just hope those in charge of the purse at Legendary realize what a winner they've got on their hands in Pacific Rim and approve the production of more content.

The story of Matador Fury and its pilots could probably be a whole film in and of itself. With the confirmation that all original Mark-III pilots aside from Raleigh are deceased, we know Matadors pilots didn't make it. I for one, would like to see how they checked out.

    • What I'd like to see, BEFORE the sequels and prequels, is some posters of every named Jaeger. That way we'd at least have some canon descriptions of them and maybe a little bit more info :)

Personally I'd like to see as many Jaegers as possible, including most of the older ones rebuilt or repaired. Go all out >:D

Just wondering, but would anybody watch a semi-documentary style spin-off movie set in the PR universe? Like detailing each and every Jaeger and Kaiju ever seen?

    • Gipsy in a paint factory in mexico=Matador Fury.

        Loading editor
    • Nah, I doubt Matador Fury would look anything like Gipsy Danger. From all the behind-the-scenes footage and interviews they made it clear they wanted each Jaegers silhouette to be clearly recognisable. A Sombrero would help achieve that probably. :P

I believe one of the best candidates for restoration would be Crimson Typhoon. Since the manner in which Otachi pulled it's head off was surgically precise (unfortunately for the Wei brothers) the rest of the mech only sustained minimal damage. If Matador is to be seen in the sequel, we can only assume it met a similarly quick fate.

... Why don't we add a giant bottle of Tequila as Matador Fury's energy source, come on... Even if it was a joke, and from a sci-fi film, those kind of things hurt mexican people (like me), anyways, it would really be interesting to know each Jaegers story...

    • If the Matador Fury is not red, is not slightly bull-like in appearance (thinking looking a bit like a minotaur, since we know digitigrade legs are good in PR, and horns for decoration :D), and does not have a sombrero, I am going to tax Del Toro until he makes a Jaeger with said specifications.

    • PhantomXT don't worry man, I for one am sure that Guillermo del Toro (being a mexican himself) would never consider any of those ridiculous designs with giant sombreros, cactus or tequila bottles, LOL xD, I mean, yes, of course there are certain stereotypes in Pacific Rim (e.g. Cherno portrayed as a brute force mecha and Crimson's combat system resembling eastern martial arts) but these are well done and none of them are as exaggerated or offensive as those of the "G Gundam" TV show (Tequila Gundam be damned!!! xD).

I mean, Gipsy Danger is an American jaeger but he doesn't looks like a giant Uncle Sam covered in stars and stripes while wearing a hat, does he? No. Did Cherno looked like a giant communist bear that used a Hammer and a Sickle as melee weapons? No. Was Coyote Tango dressed with a giant metallic kimono and used a overgrown Katana as weapon? No, of course not, none of them were that stereotypical, so... Why should Matador Fury look like a giant Mariachi or a Matador?! Come on guys, LOL xD

I know you guys are kidding (or at least I hope so), but you've got to know and remember that mexican culture is not limited to big sombreros, tequila and tacos, there's also a prehispanic cultural legacy that was left by the Aztecs and the Mayans, and lots of other cultural dimensions.

Now, if in the worst possible scenario, Michael Bay were to direct the sequel, Oh man! you could expect everything to go downhilll with things such as spectacularly ridiculous stereotypes, jaegers humping skyscrapers and kaijus being hit in the testicles. Pacific Rim is not about absurd comedy and is not a story that tries to ridicule itself in every moment or way possible, Pacific Rim is different. So for now I just hope Guillermo gets to direct the sequel too.

It's out on PS3 already, nobody know's if it will ever be released on PC, perhaps they will release it later, or perhaps they won't.

About the DLC jaeger's, I'm speculating that they may release Romeo Blue, Horizon Brave and Tacit Ronin next year beginning on January of course. The original list we saw posted when the game had just been released mentioned that Raiju, Onibaba, Mutavore and Axehead would come as DLC. Then later those Kaijus got removed from it because they had not been confirmed by the developers and it wasn't an official DLC list. After Coyote Tango was released everybody was expecting Striker Eureka to be the next, but suddenly, they released Raiju first without any previous announcement, and nobody was expecting Raiju to come before Striker and we weren't even sure he would get released as well. Now that they confirmed Onibaba and Mutavore (we already knew Axehead was an official release) there's a much better chance they may release those three Mark-I jaegers.

I hope the developers release them next year because the Mark-I's are my favorite jaegers, and I could make some use of that epic Romeo Blue (my favorite jaeger) to kick some Kaiju tail!!!

    • Heh, it would be nice if they brought out a discounted version at some point with all the DLC installed but I guess that defeats the purpose of its "freemium" business model. :P

Also I think a prequel would suck. It would just be some random fights, and any human storyline would feel kinda pointless since it wouldn't affect the overall story of the first movie.
